I kind of half woke up this morning and was like nooo I dont want ot go to school then I look at them time and realize it's kind of late and so I figure we must be starting late.. The nEws said Eanes ISD (which SMA follows) would be starting 3 hours late so I was like ok...I went to tell my mom and she's like "So? You're not going anyway. You're still sick." I was like ok..um...but then I mean if we started 3 hours late it would be at like 11:15 and since it's block day it would mean that we'd be there for 15 minutes of B Block then we'd go to lunch then we;d have C and D blocks which for me and Alexa and both blow off classes, so to speak. now I just came on saw Victoria and "EJ" on and Victoria's away message said "no classes" so I looked it up on ktbc.com and kxan.com and it said Eanes cancelled so HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH weeee! even less make-up work for me!!! but I still have to finish those damn World Geo. paragraphs....*grr*

Injured St. Michael's player gets one last shot ... and it's good

Cooper Drenner, 17, sits out as his teammates practice in the gym at St. Michael"s Academy Tuesday. Drenner, a senior at St. Michael's, tore his knee just before the start of basketball season.

When Cooper Drenner entered the game with 30 seconds to play, friends and fans stood, filling the tiny gymnasium with raucous applause usually reserved for elite players.

This was Senior Night, the final home game for St. Michael's Academy, and the Crusaders were on the verge of a 69-51 victory over Dallas Jesuit last Saturday. These cheers, however, were for the senior guard sporting a black knee brace.

It marked the first time all season that the home folks had seen Drenner, the tough-luck kid who still is recuperating from preseason knee surgery.

This was a gesture of gratitude, a token appearance, a chance to recognize a familiar face in his final game.

Yet the heart-touching story of the season was wrapped inside those precious final 30 seconds on the scoreboard clock.

As the final chapter of the regular season was about to close, Drenner — ordered not to run under any circumstances — found the ball in his hands with five seconds to go. A defensive player rushing to guard him, Drenner launched a three-point shot from the left corner of the court just before stepping out of bounds.

With the ball in flight, Drenner raised his arms, believing his shot had a chance to go in.

As everyone in the packed gym focused on the ball, one had to wonder whether there could there be a more fitting way for St. Michael's Academy to end the regular season . . .

Turn the clock back six months.

This was supposed to be a memorable senior year for Drenner, the quarterback of the football team and point guard for the basketball team. While practicing beneath the hot August sun, Drenner tore ligaments in his right thumb in non-contact drills. The injury on his throwing hand required surgery, destroying any chance to play quarterback in the fall.

"It was safe to play football with a cast on my arm," Drenner said this week. "I just couldn't play quarterback."

Instead, he played the entire season at outside linebacker, contributing 35 tackles and two sacks. He was named to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools' Class 5A all-state second team.

Fate was cruel for the 6-1, 180-pound, 18-year-old. In the final minute of the final game, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The ACL injury would take four to six months to heal, he was told, meaning he would miss basketball season.

"I was crushed," he said.

Drenner lost his season. St. Michael's lost a point guard.

"Everything Cooper had hoped for in his senior year was over," St. Michael's basketball coach Scott Zimmerman said. "After he put his hopes and dreams aside, he showed true character by showing us the type of person he is."

Despite the injury, Drenner attended every practice and nearly every game, often giving tips to the two junior point guards who took his place. He usually watches his teammates practice while riding a stationary bicycle, part of his recovery regiment.

"Cooper took the attitude that everything happens for a reason," longtime friend and basketball teammate Andrew Dickson said. "He's a pretty emotional player when he's playing, and he became an inspiration to the rest of us when he wasn't."

St. Michael's hardly missed him. The playoff-bound Crusaders completed the regular season 24-8 and are serious contenders for a state championship.

At last week's game against Jesuit, Drenner took his customary seat on the bench, next to his coach, and watched St. Michael's run away to a surprisingly easy victory.

In the closing minutes of the game, a few fans began to chant Cooper's name. Within moments, they were joined by the rest of the crowd — mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, students and small children:

"Coo-per! Coo-per! Coo-per!"

Zimmerman turned to his senior, the point guard with the bad knee.

"What do you think?" the coach said. "Want to go in?"

"You bet!" Cooper snapped. He limped to the scorer's table to check in. Fans elevated their voices when Cooper walked in:

"COO-PER! COO-PER! COO-PER!"

St. Michael's players were hoping Cooper would take the final shot, but he was double-covered on the left side. Dickson, a 6-6 guard, dribbled hard to the basket, drawing the defense with him. He turned and whipped the ball to Cooper, now open in the corner.

Six seconds were left in the game. . . . Five. . . . Four. . . .

Cooper set his feet and lofted a rainbow toward the rim . . .

"Nothing but net!" Zimmerman recalled. Cooper's only points of the season touched off a wild celebration.

He jogged down the sidelines, his fists clinched, forgetting orders not to run. Fans surrounded him at midcourt. Mothers cried. It was a scene right out of "Hoosiers."

But this was not for a state title. It only felt that way.

"If I continue to coach for a long time, there will not be many individual plays that will make me any happier," Zimmerman said.

"The place went nuts," Cooper said. "Nothing takes away from the fact I couldn't play all year, but I couldn't have written a better ending."

YOUR BODY IS A WONDERLAND by the oh-so-wonderfully-inspiring John Mayer

We got the afternoon
You got this room for two
One thing I've left to do
Discover me
Discovering you

One mile to every inch of
Your skin like porcelain
One pair of candy lips and
Your bubblegum tongue

And if you want love
We'll make it
Swimming a deep sea
Of blankets
Take all your big plans
And break 'em
This is bound to be a while

Your body Is a wonderland
Your body is a wonder (I'll use my hands)
Your body Is a wonderland

Something 'bout the way your hair falls in your face
I love the shape you take when crawling towards the pillowcase
You tell me where to go and
Though I might leave to find it
I'll never let your head hit the bed
Without my hand behind it

you want love?
We'll make it
Swimming a deep sea
Of blankets
Take all your big plans
And break 'em
This is bound to be a while

Your body Is a wonderland
Your body is a wonder (I'll use my hands)
Your body Is a wonderland

Damn baby
You frustrate me
I know you're mine all mine all mine
But you look so good it hurts sometimes

Your body Is a wonderland
Your body is a wonder (I'll use my hands)
Your body Is a wonderland
Your body is a wonderland

Amy didn't put enough about Dustin in her post, so I'll elaborate... DUSTIN WAS IN A TOGA (or sheet)!!!!!! with no shirt on!!!!! SEXY BABY!!!!! he actually came in with a freaky prison-striped poncho on (????).... but then he disappeared and a banana and a gorilla (or bear as we thought it was) walked in and then Dustin came back in with a sheet tied around himself and i could see his entire back and part of his oh-so-sexy chest... and Chance was there o' course... i couldn't see Dalton, so i was a little disappointed that he wasn't there (WHY?!?!??!)... then at helf time the senior bball parents came down to do the "Banana Dance" with us and Dustin led of course... then right before half time was supposed to end he comes down to where we are and tries to get everyone to make a tunnel, and we all obeyed him of course... then we're all standing there, trying to figure out if the team ever feels like coming through us... and Dustin runs through to make sure there's enough room for the team to run through... he is soooo cute! so he ran back to us *sighs* and i look over and Dalton is standing there (i was quite happy) then the team FINALLY comes out so we all go and watch the second half of the game... oh yeah! it was really quiet at one point and Dusty Pants starts the "C-R-U" cheer thing and i'm all happy and then i look across at his paretns and Greyson was standing there so i squealed a tad... YAY! the whole family was there... it was VERY NICE... so we all lamely "rushed" the court at the end of the game (more like strolled onto the court, actually) but hey! it was all good... i got to see toga-man a tad more (Moore!) and i think he actually touched me at some point?! while i was saying something along the lines of "I love you Mooney!" ...*arg*
the Senior Day for the varsity guys b-ball was awesome!!!!!! we (Alexa and I) saw a big banana, 10+ people in togas (aka sheets), a gorilla, and Jason Rother with a basketball cut to fit on his head...oh and we won...Dustin was one of the people in togas!! hahah Alexa was loving that!! and the whole Moore family was there. AND MY GUY WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BURK FREY BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE CAME TO THE GAME!!!!!!!!!! and as we were leaving in the parking lot Alexa had slowed with me so we could walk behind him!! and his car was like 2 spaces away form ours...he was walking with his daddy hehe so then I say "speedbump" (which is something youy have to say just so no one trips...trust me! you think it's weird but watch someday someone wont say it and then splat!) and then I was saying how I just should've let Alexa fall because she was caling me reatrded for liking Burk....and he turns around and smiles at us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO I was soooooooo happy!!!!!! oh wait...he's still a jerk.....I DONT CARE!!!!!!!! ahahahahah!!!!! hottie hottie hottie!

so, on CSI, the footprint had yellow street paint on it... and they zoomed in on it and there were all these tiny looking pieces of glass and i was screaming "Look!!!! DIAMTOMS!!!" and then, on Clone High, Abe said something about the roses being lucky and Cleo goes "Actually, flowers are just the sex organs of plants. They can't feel anything." and i just keep thinking about how i just learned all this stuff in Biology class.. it's just too funny!

Family ties. Most of you want Harry to be Professor Dumbledore's grandson and for Lily and James Potter to be alive. Plus, there's great interest in creating a long-lost sister for Harry (lots of you tried to figure out a way for that girl to be Hermione).

Star Wars. Lord Voldemort kept popping up as Harry's father, grandfather, uncle or some other blood connection. A few said he was Dumbledore's relative gone bad.

Hogwarts Heirs. Harry pulled Godric Gryffindor's sword out of the Sorting Hat in "Chamber of Secrets," which led many contestants to speculate Dumbledore confirms Harry is Gryffindor's Heir and must battle to the death with Slytherin's Heir (Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort).

Fawkes the Phoenix. Most people linked the mysterious Order of the Phoenix to the fact that Harry's wand contains a tailfeather from Fawkes the Phoenix -- as does Lord Voldemort's wand. A good number of contestants remembered what Mr. Ollivander said: The wand picks the wizard.

Romance. James loved Lily. No, Snape loved Lily. No, Voldemort loved Lily. And Dumbledore was once married. No, he is dating Professor McGonagall. Cho Chang's mother is an evil supporter of Voldemort, and Harry should stay away from his crush this year.

People who aren't what they seem. Harry's parents have become phoenixes. James and Lily Potter were Death-Eaters. Arthur Weasley is a Death-Eater. Ron and Hermione are Voldemort's spies. Draco Malfoy is Harry's brother. Petunia Dursley is a witch but won't acknowledge it.

Too bizarre to categorize. Hagrid is Harry's mother. Dumbledore is Hermione's boyfriend (and he's also seeing Professor McGonagall). Dumbledore is a robot assassin sent to kill Harry. James Potter cloned Harry, and Dumbledore has a tiny Harry clone in a jar.
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe presented the technical achievement award to Eve Stewart for her work on the gritty, bittersweet film All Or Nothing. Daniel said of special effects work: "When you've been stuck on a broomstick for as many days as I have, you really appreciate it."

Receiving her prize Ms Stewart gave Daniel a huge smacker and declared: "I can't believe I've just kissed Harry Potter."
